Conference on 16 May 2024 entitled “Supporting businesses in applying European sustainability reporting standards (ESRS)”

The European Commission is organising a half-day event in English entitled “Supporting businesses in applying European sustainability reporting standards (ESRS)” on Thursday 16 May 2024 from 9:00 to 13:00.

The event will bring together experts and representatives from Member States, professional and trade associations, businesses, consultants, auditors and other stakeholders. Its aim is to present ongoing initiatives and discuss ideas for additional mechanisms to support companies implementing the new reporting standards.

The ESRS standards began to apply to the first companies falling within the scope of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) from the 2024 financial year. Effective and well-targeted support initiatives can help reduce costs and burdens for companies. These initiatives can be developed at European, national and even regional and local levels. In addition to helping companies within the scope of the CSRD, support initiatives could also benefit SMEs that are not subject to these legal sustainability reporting requirements but are nevertheless facing increased demand for ESG-related information due to the so-called “trickle-down effect”.
